Unlike in baseball, many softball teams utilize only one or two pitchers during the season.  Many feel that because the pitching style is not overhand,  as in baseball, that these pitchers are at low risk of injury.   Not true.  A recent study showed 73% of softball pitchers were injured during the season, most injuries being related to pitching.  Though there is less force across the shoulder and elbow with windmill vs. overhand throwing, there is still significant enough stress to cause injury, especially with repetition.  Risk of injury may be diminished by proper warm-up and stretching prior to throwing, appropriate conditioning and mechanics and perhaps pitch counts.
