Length of hospital stay after total knee replacement is a hot topic with many patients and physicians.  Some may brag about the short duration of their hospitalization.  Nobody wants to stay in a hospital when he or she may safely be at home, however, post-operative complications increase if knee replacement patients are discharged too early.  Several research papers have noted increase in complication rate and readmissions with short hospital stays.  We have had many stay one or two nights in the hospital with much success and a very low readmission rate and complication rate.  The key is to individualize treatment.  Every patient is unique and needs to be treated with personal attention and care.
